RB-Y1 is a dual-arm wheeled humanoid robot released by Korea's Rainbow Robotics in March 2024 (first unveiled in 2024 on the SF+AW platform), standing 140 cm tall and weighing 131 kg. Each arm has 7 degrees of freedom and ends in a 6-DOF dexterous hand, and it can smoothly walk, stand up, pour water and grasp objects. It uses a wheeled base, moves at up to 2.5 m/s (9 km/h), and runs for about 2 hours on a 1250 Wh battery.
RB-Y1 is positioned as 'an open humanoid robot built for research and development': it offers universities and corporate R&D departments a research edition starting at about US$80,000, along with developer documentation, a simulation environment and APIs. Deliveries to customers began in April 2024, and an updated version was shown at ICRA 2025 in May 2025 (26 degrees of freedom across the body, with tactile sensing and finer fingers). After Samsung Electronics announced its investment in December 2024 and became its largest shareholder, Rainbow Robotics is integrating RB-Y1 with Galaxy AI and plans to launch a new humanoid robot.
Rainbow Robotics grew out of the KAIST Hubo team (winner of the 2015 DARPA Robotics Challenge) and has deep expertise in humanoid motion control; RB-Y1 is its first mass-production-grade product to move from the lab toward commercialization.
