Bipedal Star Wars character droids that walk, balance and emote.
The BDX droids are small bipedal Star Wars characters developed by Disney Research and Walt Disney Imagineering. They learn to walk and balance through reinforcement learning in simulation, then perform in parks with a puppeteer adding expressiveness; Disney calls them the first of a new generation of expressive, free-roaming robots and part of a modular Robotic Character Platform. They have appeared at Disneyland Resort, aboard the Disney Wish, at SXSW and Nvidia GTC, and in the film The Mandalorian and Grogu.
