What it is

TALOS is a research-grade bipedal humanoid robot released by Spain's PAL Robotics in 2017, standing 175 cm tall, weighing 95 kg, and with 32 degrees of freedom across its body. It inherits and extends the technical approach of REEM-C: each arm has 7 degrees of freedom and a 6 kg payload, walking speed is about 3 km/h, and its 1080 Wh battery provides about 1.5 hours of runtime. It can carry loads, open doors, and climb up and down stairs.

TALOS is positioned as one of Europe's most capable research humanoid platforms, aimed at bipedal locomotion, whole-body control and force-controlled manipulation research at universities and research institutions. It has also taken part in EU-funded industrial trials (such as assisting in automotive assembly). The research version has a reference price of about €900,000 and is a high-end, custom-built system.

PAL Robotics was founded by a team of humanoid robotics pioneers (tracing back to Spain's first bipedal robot research in 2004). TALOS, together with its home-service robot REEM and mobile robot TIAGO, forms a representative European robot product portfolio that has been purchased by several top European laboratories.
