What it is

EMIEW3 is the third generation of Hitachi's EMIEW service humanoid, unveiled in 2016 at 90 cm tall and 15 kg. It moves autonomously on a wheeled base, detects people's expressions and movement, approaches customers and speaks to them, and can stand itself up after falling. Hitachi paired it with a remote-brain architecture that handles speech, image and language processing off-board and coordinates multiple robots, and ran field trials at Haneda Airport, Tokyo Station and DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in 2016-2017. It was a trial platform rather than a product and was never sold.
